Abstract
THE production of members of the natural radioactive series from stable nuclei is a result of considerable interest. Hitherto, radium E and polonium1 have been obtained by bombarding bismuth with deuterons, and uranium Y has been reported2 as arising from the interaction of fast neutrons with thorium. We have been able to obtain actinium C″ from lead by bombardment with neutrons. From the accompanying table of isotopes, it will be seen that the reaction Pb207 (n,H)Tl207 would lead to this result, whilst similar processes with Pb208 and Pb206 would give rise to ThC″ and Tl206 respectively.
