Abstract
THE movement of substances from the nerve cell body to the nerve fibre ending was first hypothesized by Scott1. Many workers2–5 have recently investigated the phenomenon using radioactive tracers and have observed that the labelled material is incorporated into the cell body and transported along the axon.
