The cover caption for the June 2002 issue should have read: Drosophila melanogaster embryo double labelled for processed caspase (CM1, red) and a nuclear membrane marker (WGA, green). Drosophila embryos have a basal level of processed caspases, that are kept inactive by Drosophila IAP1 (DIAP1). Reaper stimulates DIAP1 ubiquitination and degradation, thereby unleashing the processed caspases to trigger cell death.
