Abstract
A series of copolymers of acrylonitrile with various vinyl ketones were prepared via radical polymerization as models of photodegradable polymers. The kinetics of the copolymerization was studied and the correlation between the reactivity of vinyl ketones and polar, steric and resonance effects of substituents was established on the basis of the Taft equation. The reactivity of the studied vinyl ketonic monomers appeared to depend on the polar nature of the substituent but it was not affected by the steric nature.
