I would use this text as a stepping-stone to moving on to more in-depth study of the subject.

Having studied oral medicine as part of my applied clinical sciences module at UCLAN this year, I can say this book acts as a great starting point for a student dental hygienist and therapist or a dental hygienist and therapist that may have been qualified for some time and is looking to refresh their basic knowledge.

The book focuses on the importance of recognising abnormal lesions when doing a clinical examination and gives an excellent vocabulary list in each chapter – a 'must know' for every dental hygienist and therapist. It has eight chapters that give an overview on most aspects of oral pathology but it is a little basic; I would use this text as a stepping-stone to moving on to more in-depth study of the subject.

A great feature is the review questions at the end of each chapter: an excellent way of assessing if you have taken in and understood what you have read.
