An epoxy replica of a tapered 'Y' shaped (each arm is 4 μm long) columnar array fabricated from an initially straight columnar array using a structural modification protocol based on electrodeposition of polypyrrole on metal-covered original structure. This scanning electron micrograph taken at 45 degree tilt angle shows how the basal area of the 'Y' shaped columnar array is mechanically reinforced while the surface pattern at the top remains unchanged. Image taken from protocol by Kim et al: Enriching libraries of high-aspect-ratio micro- or nano-structures by rapid, low-cost, bench-top nanofabrication: DOI - 10.1038/nprot.2012.003
