Quinine Oxidase in Liver and Blood Plasma of Rabbits poisoned with Carbon Tetrachloride

Abstract

RABBIT liver has been shown to be a rich source of quinine oxidase1,2. The enzyme was also demonstrated in other organs of the rabbit but in much smaller amount (spleen, lungs); none was found in the pancreas, heart, kidney and skeletal muscles2. In normal human blood, quinine oxidase is present in negligible amounts. However, in cases of parenchymatous lesions of the liver, increased amounts could be detected in the blood. Therefore, the determination of this enzyme has been recommended by Baier3 and by Roman and Dulmanis4 as a test for liver damage.
