Activation of AMPK fails to protect cells from staurosporine-induced death. (a) Percent viability was measured for control LN229 cells (control) or LN229 cells expressing myrAkt (myrAkt) cultured in a serum-free medium for 48 h in the presence of no drug (no drug), 2 μ M staurosporine (+STS), or 2 μ M staurosporine and 1 mM AICAR (+STS+AICAR). Data are presented as mean±s.d. of triplicate samples and are representative of two independent experiments. (b) Western blot for phospho-Ser79 ACC (pS79-ACC), phospho-Thr172 AMPK (pT172-AMPK), and actin.
