Abstract
LAKE deposits have proved to be of interest in various ways. They present convenient material for the study of the process of sedimentation and of the initial stages of sediment metamorphosis. They remain for long periods uninfluenced by erosion, weathering and other disturbances, and preserve in stratigraphical sequence such animal and plant remains as resist decomposition, and also the inorganic portion of the parent material. They record in varying completeness and detail the biological history of lakes and the climatic conditions in which sedimentation occurred.
