Abstract
ALTHOUGH infra-red spectra of many of the common rock-forming minerals have been presented by several investigators1–5, few results are available for the diagnostic analysis of clay minerals in the far infra-red spectral region (below 400 cm−1). This communication presents the far infra-red spectra of montmorillonite, kaolinite, and illite for the portion of the spectrum between 90 and 400 cm−1.
