Abstract
VARIETAL differences in nutrient assimilation and yield response have been reported for several plant species1,2. The role of iron in the nutrition of certain crop plants has received particular attention. Varieties of soyabean differed in their ability to absorb iron from their growth media, especially when available iron was low3. Similar differences are reported for maize varieties4.
