Abstract
IT has long been known that exposure to stress, in itself1 or in combination with various sensitizing agents, particularly glucocorticoids2,3, can produce acute haemorrhagic erosions of the gastric mucosa which have been used as experimental models of “stress ulcers”. However, these erosions have little, if any, tendency to perforate and usually disappear after a few days unless the eliciting Stressor is fatal before healing can occur.
