A pre-filtered synchrotron X-ray wavefront is monochromatized by a double Laue-Laue monochromator. The papyrus sample is fixed to a sample stage and rotates over 360 degrees. Due to the aspect ratio of the beam (5 mm high × 15 cm wide), the sample (16 cm in length) is moved after each scan by a distance equal to the height of the beam. After passing through the sample the X-ray beam is recorded by a FReLoN detector.
