The 76 species in the collection were categorized as described in the Methods. The 18 bacteria selected for creation of the Minimal Bacteriome (MIBAC-1) are marked with asterisks. These species were selected based on their prevalence and abundance using both the MGS- and universal 16S rRNA gene amplicon-based surveys described in the text and also according to their phylogenetic diversity. Quotation marks indicate novel bacterial names proposed in the present study.
