This paper is an admirable addition to the literature surrounding penile prosthesis surgery and patient satisfaction. The authors, who have extensive experience with this subject, have carefully studied the impact of knowledge of preoperative penile length on postoperative patient satisfaction [1, 2]. They report a negative result, showing that this knowledge does not seem to change patient satisfaction following implant surgery. The authors also note high postoperative satisfaction among these patients, indicating high-quality surgical intervention in their practice. They also emphasize the importance of proper preoperative patient counseling in setting appropriate expectations. The authors should be commended for the solid work that went into this paper.

There have been numerous recent studies regarding successful measurement of penile prosthesis satisfaction. High rates of satisfaction are routinely reported in the literature, but no reliable English language validated questionnaires exist to assess implant satisfaction [3]. The study authors modified the Erectile Dysfunction Inventory of Treatment Satisfaction (EDITS) questionnaire, a workhorse that has been often adapted for this purpose. New instruments on the horizon include the Quality of Life and Sexuality with Penile Prosthesis (QoLSPP), which was recently converted from Italian to English [4]. Additionally, the Satisfaction Survey for Inflatable Penile Implant (SSIPI) was newly created and validated at multiple sites [5]. These tools, and diligent prospective research like this study, will all go a long way toward further advancing our knowledge of post-prosthesis patient satisfaction.
