Proportions are based on most recent data from national surveys and censuses. Blue coloured bars represent countries in the Pacific, orange coloured bars represent countries in Southeast Asia, green coloured bars represent countries in South Asia and red bars represent Asia-Pacific (all countries combined). These crude estimates, which do not factor in temporal trends, suggest 32% of the population (~780 million people) in the Asia-Pacific used self-supply as their main drinking water source in 2018. Self-supply is more common in rural areas (38% of the rural population) than in urban areas (21% of the urban population).
