The central densities and pressures of different stars are displayed on top of a background showing the ranges of possible neutron star matter equations of state. Maximally massive stars (red dots), 2M stars (orange squares), and 1.44M stars (blue diamonds) are shown on top of each other. The color coding of the background refers to the maximal value that the speed of sound squared \({c}_{s}^{2}\) reaches at any density.
