The central densities and pressures of different stars are displayed on top of a background showing the ranges of possible neutron star matter equations of state. Maximally massive stars (red dots), 2M⊙ stars (orange squares), and 1.44M⊙ stars (blue diamonds) are shown on top of each other. The color coding of the background refers to the maximal value that the speed of sound squared \({c}_{s}^{2}\) reaches at any density.
