A time capsule capturing 'the essence of the NHS' in its 70th year was placed in the new Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals building on Huntley Street in London last month. The new building is due to open next year.

The capsule's contents include dental moulds, penicillin, x-rays and a model of a set of cutting edge cochlear ear implants.

The new facility brings together the services currently provided at the Royal National Ear Nose and Throat Hospital and Eastman Dental Hospital, currently based on Gray's Inn Road.

The new building is being constructed on the site of the old Royal Ear Hospital, where cochlear implants were developed 35 years ago.

Patient Joe Palmer, age 14, who has hypodontia and is missing ten teeth, and Jeanann Doyle, who is 30 and has a cochlear implant, were at the sealing ceremony and placed stories of their care into the time capsule.

Joe said: 'Without the help of the Eastman Dental Hospital, I wouldn't be able to smile or eat properly and I'd have no confidence. My life would be very difficult'.

The ceremony was also an opportunity to thank some of the donors who are supporting the development of the new building. For more information visit https://www.uclhcharity.org.uk/donate/a-clinical-facility.
