Protein sequencing is one of the key aims of the nanopore field. Working toward this goal, here the authors report the direct identification of single amino acids in MoS2 nanopores with sub-1 Dalton resolution, as well as the discrimination of the amino acid isomers and amino acid phosphorylation.

Spider silk is widely studied for its structural properties; however, other creatures produce silk that could be of interest. Here, the authors study the properties and structure of Bagworm silk and report it as being extraordinarily strong and tough compared to other known silks.

Genome-scale proteome quantification by DEEP SEQ mass spectrometry
The complexity and dynamic range of mammalian proteomes has stymied comprehensive protein quantification for the past twenty years. Zhou et al. develop DEEP SEQ mass spectrometry and use it to quantify a murine stem cell proteome to a depth equivalent to RNA-seq-based ribosome profiling.
