Abstract
Clear air turbulence (CAT) at high altitudes over the Woomera rocket range in South Australia seems to be related to the presence of the core of the jet stream near the range. Flights with Jindivik target aircraft over the range have shown that CAT is most likely to occur when there is a sharp “kink” in the temperature profile between 50 and 200 mbar.
